Course content
Psychotherapeutic Counselling courses at Staffordshire University offer two routes to a professional qualification in counselling. For those studying at postgraduate level (M), the MSc/Postgraduate Diploma Psychotherapeutic Counselling and for those studying at undergraduate level (H) the Professional Diploma Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Both routes aim to meet the standards of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy for counsellor training and education. The course reflects the four elements of training: Theory, Counselling Skills, Professional Issues and Personal Development as outlined by the Association. The course contact hours may be counted towards meeting part of criterion 4 of the BACP Counsellor/Psychotherapist Accreditation scheme. The provision of these four elements builds on the student’s ability to function as an effective, ethically aware counsellor in a structured and coherent way.
The MSc/Professional Diploma takes account of the move towards the more integrative approaches to counselling, which better meet the needs of Counselling clients in our present day multicultural and diverse society.
Information for international students
Candidates should also have a good standard of written and spoken English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent).
