Entry requirements

A 2:2 honours degree, ideally in a cognate discipline. Candidates with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.We welcome applications from students from around the world and require evidence of previous study that is equivalent to the entry requirements.

If English is not your first language you will need an acceptable pass in an approved English Language qualification to make sure you get the full benefit from studying at Swansea. We consider a wide range of qualifications, including the Swansea University English Test, the British Council IELTS test (with a score of at least 6.5 and 6.0 in each component).

Course content

The business of hydrocarbon energy supply remains one of the most fundamental aspects of global commerce and natural resources law in the modern world. This topic is not limited to the exploitation of petroleum and encompasses many different aspects of law and business; from protecting the intellectual property rights of new oil and gas technology, to complex joint venture contracts and compensation regimes for pollution liability.

Study the LLM in Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law and you will gain an in-depth knowledge of the growing area of oil and gas law, including the complex legal features of the petroleum industry. The course will also explore the legal issues concerning new sources of energy especially renewable energy.
