This course is for senior curators, creative practitioners including artists, filmmakers, designers and senior and executive staff across creative and cultural organisations including learning and education, technical, and leadership, academics and self-employed practitioners. This route to a doctorate takes curators, cultural leaders and creative practitioners on a taught course for their professional context that is equivalent to PhD level.

You follow the journey of a practice-based research project, creating a high-level industry facing project and accompanying thesis from your professional practice. This includes curation, cultural leadership, film and media, design, fine art and other creative practices, and hybrid and interdisciplinary approaches.

This course focuses on practice-based research in the cultural and creative sector, operating at a professional industry level standard.

You take a research-informed approach, developing advanced skills appropriate for conducting your doctoral research project. You learn from, and work alongside experienced and prolific researchers and the course strengthens your ability to disseminate findings through research outputs and impact, while contributing to knowledge and practice within your own area

Did you know that 80% of research entered in Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory was recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent (Research Excellence Framework 2021).
