This programme offers a variety of practical training courses which include the full use of the analytical instrumentation and services available. You'll also be encouraged to attend seminars and international scientific meetings relevant to your research area.
There are four research groups in the Department: organic, inorganic, physical and computational. Each group is composed of members of staff that approach these topics from very different points of view, allowing students to fully understand the context of their research.
Research in the Department spans all sub-disciplines, from theoretical physical chemistry to biological and synthetic chemistry and antibody engineering. Major themes that are represented include electrochemistry, polymer chemistry, studies of Langmuir-Blodgett films, organometallic, and main group chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, asymmetric synthesis, catalysis and computational chemistry.
