Entry requirements

Part 1 or equivalent qualification in a cognate subject. Students applying for the Master of Architecture must have a minimum level of proficiency equal to IELTS 6.5* or equivalent in the English language.

Course content

The Master's course in Architecture aims to prepare graduates for exemption from the RIBA part II exemption and for access to the next stage in their career in professional practice (Part III examination) or academic research / study.

Students will be expected to apply a comprehensive range of visual, oral and written media, in order to test, analyse, critically appraise and explain complex architectural design proposals, utilising advanced materials, processes and techniques.

Students will be expected to develop a critical understanding of how knowledge is advanced through research to produce clear, logically argued and original written work relating to culture, theory and design in the subject areas of architecture, urban design and agrarian design;

Students will be expected to acquire an understanding of the context of professional architectural practice and the construction industry, including a critical understanding of the architect's role in the processes of procurement and building production, under current legislation.

The course aims to provide a means by which students can acquire problem solving skills, professional judgement and an ability to take the initiative and make appropriate decisions in complex and unpredictable circumstances.

  • Design Studio 1 (Cross disciplinary compliance project);
  • Design Studio 1 (Design theory thesis project);
