Entry requirements

2:2 Degree: Applicants are normally required to have completed an undergraduate programme or first degree in a relevant subject such as Fashion and Brand Promotion or Marketing or Public Relations or Journalism or Fashion Merchandising or Photography or Design.

Equivalent of a UK GPA of 60 percent.

Applicants need to prepare a comprehensive study plan proposal which should evidence interest, dedication or experience within the subject of lifestyle and fashion.

IELTS: Score of 6.5 or equivalent for applicants whose first language is not English.

Course content

Our MA in Fashion and Lifestyle Promotion looks at the links between fashion organisations and their consumers, stakeholders, and the wider fashion environment, and focuses on the creative essence of the fashion industry. This course is an ideal choice if your career goal is to work for a high-street/ online fashion, luxury or lifestyle brand.

The course will develop your intellectual and imaginative power through a programme of study that is formed from cohesion between theory and practice.

Within a stimulating environment you’ll exchange ideas supported through factual creative research, developed and contextualised. You’ll develop new connections within the field of fashion that challenge traditional design boundaries.

You will explore and use different research methods to investigate the branding and promotion of fashion through marketing, advertising, events management, PR, trend prediction, brand identity and media.

What you'll do

• Experience international city trips and study visits to exhibitions and museums - Manchester, London, Berlin and New York have been regular trips in recent years (students will be required to pay for overseas trips/visits and these are, therefore, optional).
• You’ll generate a portfolio of work to track your development as an artist or designer.
• Project work will be exhibited in a final showcase that will be open to the public and will be attended by industry and potential employers, as well as family, friends, and students.

Learning and assessment

Teaching involves a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, presentations and industry liaison, and assessment is continuous. Theory underpinning practice is developed simultaneously throughout each semester and Negotiated Agreements Parts I and II allow you to acquire the ability to develop and refine proposals, which underpin major projects, and reflect on personal progress.

You’ll be expected to contextualize your work within a current framework, and develop evaluative skills in order to articulate your point of view. Research Methods and Application introduces you to a range of analytical research tools, forming the basis for all in-depth self-directed projects on the programme.

Further information

You’ll be taught in the Victoria Building - a modern, bright building with purpose-built studios and workshops, including photographic studios, audio visual and computer imaging facilities. It is close to the library, computer facilities, student union, cafés, bars, refectory, and the centre of Preston is only a five-minute walk away. The University's Library has a well-resourced Art and Design section and a specialist librarian. The MA studio provides a range of facilities and work space.
