Course content

Translation and Interpreting is becoming an increasingly important area of expertise as global communication expands, and there is a need for highly skilled experts in many areas including the further development of translation software, automated translation, software and videogame localization, intercultural product development, communication consultancy, policy making, intercultural studies, comparative cultural studies/history, public service interpreting, among others. Completing a PhD in Translation Studies (Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling) will put you in a position to contribute substantially to the development of the field. For example, your PhD project might assess some aspect of Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling and come up with recommendations that might lead to an improvement of teaching strategy, of working strategy, or of the underpinning technology. We also offer an MPhil in this subject. Please note, part-time research study is also available.
