Course content

Immerse yourself in the ideas, practices, and possibilities that shape today’s global cultural landscape. Our Global Cultural Enterprise MSc places you at the forefront of our understanding of how creative work is produced, distributed, and experienced across diverse local and international contexts. Drawing inspiration from Glasgow’s vibrant cultural scene and supported by strong industry links, you’ll engage with leading theories, hands-on projects, and collaborative opportunities that prepare you to think critically and work creatively across a wide range of cultural sectors.

Why the Programme?

  • The programme benefits from strong links with local and international cultural practitioners, and integrates work-related learning opportunities such as live briefs, case studies and project pitching, enabling you to gain practical experience and valuable insight into industry practices.
  • With a clear focus on skills development through lectures, workshops, and assignments, you will build a portfolio of work and gain the expertise needed to complete an independent research project.
  • Learn from renowned researchers and expert guest speakers with experience in both local and global contexts, as you explore leading theoretical frameworks and develop the skills to critically examine creative enterprise across a range of sectors, including visual arts, fashion, theatre, film, and music.
  • With a particular emphasis on socially engaged and alternative models of production, you will investigate diverse approaches to cultural enterprise, considering how cultural goods are produced, distributed, and experienced across local, national and international settings, from markets shaped by globalisation and international development to innovative social and grassroots enterprises.
  • Core courses establish a strong foundation in the central issues and debates within Global Cultural Enterprise, while a wide selection of optional courses drawn from Cultural Industries, the School of Culture and Creative Arts, and across the College of Arts & Humanities, allow you to tailor your studies to your own interests and career goals. You will also choose a course from the professional pathways options offered in our Adam Smith Business School - one of the top 1% of international business schools with triple accreditation. This interdisciplinary approach prepares you to work flexibly and creatively across diverse cultural contexts.
  • Glasgow offers an outstanding setting for the study of cultural enterprise. The city is home to a rich variety of cultural organisations, from independent galleries to national performing arts companies, and regularly welcomes international practitioners across creative disciplines through its many festivals. Recognised by the European Commission as the UK’s top cultural and creative city, and celebrated as UNESCO’s first City of Music, Glasgow provides an inspiring environment for creative study and collaboration.
