Course content
Turn your passion and skill with maths into a rewarding career. Learn to motivate and nurture the next generation of students with a PGCE in mathematics at secondary level.
Our PGCE in secondary-level mathematics prepares you to become a professional, creative and reflective teacher. The course includes two school placements, university-based workshops, plus extensive support in the form of online materials. During your training, you will investigate how to address common errors and misconceptions through pedagogy. You will also improve your core subject knowledge of maths and explore how your skills relate to maths teaching.
Our lecturers will help you widen your individual skills, expertise and background knowledge in mathematics education. We'll build on your natural flair, so you successfully engage with young students. Past trainees have contributed to a national project run by the Personal Finance Education Group (now Young Enterprise) to provide financial education as part of the curriculum.
