Course content

The media entertain us and inform us. But they are also a vast business sector employing huge numbers of people. The MA in Media Industries examines the media industries across both these dimensions – the cultural and the economic. With media playing a central role in modern life, an understanding of the industries that produce them is crucial. This course is your chance to gain such an understanding.

The core modules studied are:

• The media industries

• Media production analysis.

All students undertake a research dissertation
of 60 credits. You will also take optional
modules that allow you to acquire in-depth
knowledge in areas such as media policy,
journalism, cinema, photography, new media as well as political and international communication. Students may choose one option from elective modules available from other university departments.
Core modules do not include practical media or business skills. Classes are taught in a mixture of lectures, small group seminars and student led discussions.
