Entry requirements

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant branch of science or engineering. (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Environmental, Food or Materials Science, Mechanical, Environmental or Food Engineering).

Other Entry Considerations:

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme.

Course content

Explore the science behind bioprocessing and enhance your career prospects with UL’s online Master of Science (MSc) in Bioprocessing.

The programme provides a solid grounding in the latest research advances, including data analytics, predictive biomolecular modelling and advanced methods including AI-driven design to manufacture protein products.

There is a focus on problem-based learning to encourage creative self-directed learning. The programme also features guest speakers at the cutting edge of industry regulatory affairs.

Suitable for those who want to prepare for a career in research, biopharmaceuticals and manufacturing in the Bio-industry.

During this programme, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the principles of managing process safety and up-to-date knowledge of upstream and downstream processing of biomolecules.

  • Learn about the latest advances in biochemistry and biomanufacturing including computational modelling.

  • Examine the pathway taken from the identification of a drug target to a potential new therapy.

  • Develop enquiry-based learning and presentation skills and explore scientific and technical issues facing bio-based industries.

Information for international students

Visa Information for non-EEA nationals:

Non-EEA nationals who wish to come to study in Ireland for longer than 90 days must be enrolled in a full-time day time course or programme on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP)

Courses that are delivered fully online may also be offered to non-EEA nationals, however students should be advised that they will not be eligible to come to Ireland to study the programme and will have to study it from their home country remotely.
