Entry requirements

All applications for the Master of Public Health (MPH) - Global Health are open to UK and international professionals who wish to study online.

As an applicant you should possess:

  • A master’s or bachelor’s in medicine, or a non-health related degree at 2:2 or above, equivalent to a UK degree.

We also welcome applicants without a degree, who will be considered on the basis of holding relevant work experience.

In addition to the above, applicants require a GCSE Grade 4, Grade C, or GCE O Level pass in Mathematics and English, or an equivalent qualification.

All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 (overall) and 7.0 (reading and writing).

If you do not have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take our free online English test to assess your proficiency. You do not need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.

If you do not currently meet our entry requirements, we offer a 15-credit standalone module, Practising and Promoting Public Health in a Global Context, that can provide a gateway onto the Master of Public Health (MPH) - Global Health if completed successfully.

Looking to pursue a specialist area of Public Health? The University of Liverpool’s online Master of Public Health (MPH) – Global Health is internationally respected for its multidisciplinary focus and commitment to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Health for All principles.

If you are working in health promotion, policy development and evaluation, this MPH will enhance your existing knowledge and expertise while providing a basis for career development towards senior and managerial positions in the profession.

This MPH programme has a specialist focus on the impact communicable diseases and environmental hazards have on the health of populations globally. It also considers the emergency response strategies for managing natural and manmade disasters, including pandemic response.

Programme delivery takes place via the virtual learning platform, enabling you to pursue the modules in your own time, within the timeframe of each module. You will also be part of an international student community with multidisciplinary backgrounds allowing for a global exchange of knowledge.

Modules

This programme consists of the following modules. You are required to complete 180 credits to achieve a full Master of Public Health (MPH) - Global Health and 120 credits to achieve the postgraduate diploma (PGDip).

Practising and Promoting Public Health in a Global Context (15 credits)

Generating and Evaluating Public Health Evidence (20 credits)

Integrated Research in Public Health: Epidemiology and Qualitative Methods (20 credits)

Leading and Managing Health Systems (10 credits)

Monitoring and Evaluation of Systems and Programmes (10 credits)

Health protection: preventing and managing communicable diseases (10 credits)

Managing crises and disaster (10 credits)

Choose from one option:

  • Applied epidemiological research for public health (15 credits)
  • Applied qualitative research for public health (15 credits)

Health inequalities: integrating public health practice (10 credits)

Dissertation (60 credits)

The tuition fee is fully inclusive of all costs: teaching materials, core textbooks, assessments and resits. If you live in England, you may be eligible for a postgraduate loan to cover some of the programme cost. If you are not eligible for a student loan, you will be offered a simple monthly payment plan to spread the cost of your tuition over the duration of your studies.
