Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a second-class honours degree (2:2 or above) in a relevant subject such as Finance, Banking, Accounting, Economics, Business, Management, or a related discipline.

Applicants with degrees in other subjects may be considered if they can demonstrate relevant quantitative skills or professional experience in finance, banking, risk, or business environments.

International applicants must meet the University’s English language requirements. Typically, this is an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with no component below 5.5) or equivalent.

Course content

The MSc Banking, Finance and Risk Management provides advanced knowledge and practical expertise across corporate finance, financial services, and risk strategy. Designed to reflect current industry demand, the programme equips you with the analytical, strategic, and leadership skills required to operate in complex and evolving financial environments.

You will explore areas including international corporate finance, strategic investment appraisal, banking and wealth management, project risk analysis, corporate governance, and organisational resilience. The course integrates research methods and either a dissertation or consultancy project, enabling you to apply theory to real-world financial challenges.

Teaching combines case studies, peer discussion, and applied learning in specialist facilities such as a Bloomberg Trading Room and Business Laboratory. The curriculum aligns with the syllabi of key professional bodies including the Chartered Banker Institute (CBI), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Institute of Risk Management (IRM), enhancing your professional credibility.

Graduates are prepared for roles in corporate finance, financial services, risk management, consultancy, and general management across a range of sectors.
