Course content

The MRes Choreography and Performance is a research-focused, practice-led programme designed for experienced dance professionals who wish to develop their artistic practice as a form of research. The course supports choreographers, dancers, and interdisciplinary performance makers in deepening their studio-based enquiry while engaging critically with contemporary theory and cultural contexts.

Centred on "practice as research", the programme enables you to investigate choreographic and performance processes through creative experimentation, reflection, and documentation. You will explore areas such as mediated choreography, philosophy and performance, dance in heritage contexts, and socially engaged practice, while developing advanced skills in writing, dramaturgy, and research articulation.

With strong links to professional companies and creative organisations, the course provides opportunities to build a substantial choreographic and/or performance portfolio. You will be supported by leading artist-scholars and benefit from specialist studios and theatre facilities in close proximity to London’s dynamic dance sector.

Graduates may progress to further academic research, including practice-led PhD study, or advance careers in professional performance, teaching, arts leadership, and cultural production.
