Course content
The MSc Data Science is available as a Master’s (180 credits), Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) or Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), designed to develop advanced analytical, computational and problem-solving skills for today’s data-driven economy.
The programme provides a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, machine learning and data analytics, alongside practical expertise in programming and modern data science tools. You will work with real-world datasets using industry-standard technologies such as Python and cloud-based platforms, developing the ability to design, evaluate and deploy scalable data solutions.
Core themes include statistical modelling, data visualisation, machine and deep learning, ethical and responsible data practice, and the application of data science across sectors such as healthcare, finance and environmental systems. Teaching combines theoretical depth with hands-on laboratory work, collaborative projects and applied case studies.
The MSc culminates in a substantial independent project, enabling you to manage a complete data science initiative from problem definition through to technical implementation and professional presentation.
Graduates are prepared for roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst and Data Engineer across commercial, public and research environments, as well as progression to further academic study.
