Work New Zealand

Job description

Live the high life as a ski lift attendant, play the field working in a vineyard or cause a stir as a barista. You don't need a magic ring or bearded wizard to work in New Zealand. You just need BUNAC's Work New Zealand program - which hooks you up with the visa, arrival accommodation and job support you need to live and work in New Zealand for up to 23 months. (If the Lord of the Rings reference wasn't clear - wait until you arrive. The scenery is magical).

The job bit: New Zealand working holiday visas allow you to work anywhere in the country and in most sectors, giving you the freedom to find a job to support your career or casual work to fund your adventures.

Our Global Jobs team source and vet employers across New Zealand who are looking to take on working holidaymakers right now. Typical jobs include hospitality, tourism, labouring, ski resort work, retail, sales, nannying, temping, and fruit picking/harvest work on farms and vineyards. Once booked onto our Work New Zealand program, you can search for jobs and interview before you go - or leave it until you arrive when we include comprehensive job support and workshops in your first week. We also hook you up with all the work essentials - like tax numbers and New Zealand bank accounts.

The money bit: New Zealand has one of the highest minimum wages in the world - currently NZD $20 an hour. You can expect to earn more working as a barista, chef and in construction - with roles more related to your trade or training earning a salary that's comparable or higher than the UK.

If you're looking to see more of New Zealand and earn as you travel, then hospitality and harvest jobs are a good way to go. They often include subsidised staff housing, so are not only a great way to save money and meet other travellers, but also to work in some epic parts of the country.

The visa bit: If you're 18-30 and a UK passport holder, you can apply for a working holiday visa that allows you to work for up to 23 months. Our Work New Zealand program includes the cost of your visa, and we even apply for it for you. Easy. For other nationalities, please visit bunac.org.
