Career Starters

Job description

If you’re considering an alternative to university, this one-day or two-day programme will give you an insight into the world of EY, and help you decide if an EY apprenticeship is right for you.

Career Starters:

Designed for school students in Year 11(England and Wales)/S4 (Scotland) and Year 12 (England and Wales)/S5 (Scotland), you’ll discover more about an EY apprenticeship and the wealth of exciting career possibilities available to you.

Across one-day or two-days you’ll learn more about the work our apprentices do to make an impact to our people, clients, and communities. You’ll take part in on-the-job case studies, business skills sessions, and networking EY apprentices and leaders. There are two programme options available:

  • Financial Futures: learn more about a career in Assurance and Tax and get an insight into our Business Apprenticeship programmes.
  • Female Tech Futures: Our Female Tech Futures programme is aimed at raising awareness with female students who are keen to pursue a career in technology. You’ll learn more about our Degree Apprenticeship in Digital and Technology, and you’ll have access to senior role models and gain an insight into the wide world of technology at EY.

How it’s structured?

Get a taste of the real working world with our one-day or two-day insight programmes:

  • If you’re in Year 11/S4 you’ll attend a one-day virtual event and take part in online sessions
  • If you’re in Year 12/S5 you’ll attend a one-day virtual event as well as a one-day in-person event hosted in one of our EY offices in Bristol, Edinburgh, London, and Manchester.

Please note you will be able to apply to any of our office locations but we advise you to apply to the location where you would want to be employed in the future. You will then be invited to the in-person office event at one of the selected locations nearest to you.

For the in-person event, EY will cover reasonable travel costs for you to get to the office. There are no overnight stays for these events and we advise for you to only apply to locations that are within a comfortable commutable distance.

What will you be doing?

  • You’ll learn about EY’s approach to inclusivity, sustainability, and technology, whilst participating in interactive sessions to learn about the culture of EY.
  • You’ll explore our different business areas and experience what it’s like to begin building a career with impact as an apprentice.
  • You’ll take part in skills development workshops that will help you to prepare for a career at EY alongside personal and professional skills.
  • You’ll gain knowledge of our apprenticeship opportunities at EY and speak to current apprentices on their career journeys, advice, and top tips.

And if you’re in Year 12/S5, you can even be fast-tracked onto one of our apprenticeship opportunities.

Preparation for an apprenticeship

Career Starters is a great way to understand whether one of our apprenticeship programmes are right for you. We expect that most of the students taking part in Career Starters will secure a place on one of our 2025 apprenticeship opportunities. If you’re one of them, not only will you get your career off to a brilliant start, but you’ll have already met members of your future team here at EY.

What we are looking for

We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone.

England: You must be in Year 11 or 12 for England and Wales completing three A levels (or equivalent) and have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.

Scotland: You must be in S5 or S6 completing 5 Highers or be working towards a SCQF Level 6/7 and have a minimum of grade C National 5 (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
