At LJMU, we collaborate with over 300 external partners to enrich our postgraduate degree programmes and work closely with a wide range of public, private and voluntary organisations including: schools, local authorities, plus sport, dance and outdoor organisations. This engagement helps ensure that our courses meet the needs of employers and organisations for skilled graduates.

Postgraduate Degrees:

I chose this course because it included an overall exploration of sport coaching science, from sport pedagogy, to psychology, to strength and conditioning - knowledge which is really important for a professional coach.

Facilities and support arrangements

Currently based at our IM Marsh Campus in Aigburth, a leafy suburb of Liverpool, the School of Sport Studies, Leisure and Nutrition benefits from facilities including an on-site Library with PCs and group study areas, student social space, strength and conditioning suite, and sports fields. Our Student Advice and Wellbeing and Careers teams also run regular drop in sessions throughout the week.

As part of LJMU’s extensive capital reinvestment programme, there are plans for the School to move to a new site in Liverpool city centre during 2020/21.

Multi-disciplinary Research

Our staff are closely aligned with the University mission: research unified with teaching.

We actively publish our work; editing and writing contributions for peer reviewed journals, books and monographs. Our team regularly speak at local, regional and international conferences giving presentations, organising panels and as key subject leads for reviewing submissions. A large number of staff are involved in professional associations and groups and use this and their research expertise to inform their curriculum design and delivery.

Our expertise is clustered around four themes:

  • Para-Disability coach education and learning
  • Dance Practices
  • Nutrition and health
  • Sport
  • Outdoor education

How to apply

Apply online via the LJMU direct application form

My previous studies at LJMU gave me a superb foundation for the nutrition MPhil/PhD I am currently undertaking. Although there was an emphasis on independent learning, this was thoroughly supported at all times by passionate, knowledgeable and approachable staff members. My degree has really enhanced both my skillset and employability.
