Course content
Our MSc Advanced Chemical Engineering addresses recent developments in the global chemical industry to provide you with a skill set that puts you amongst the strongest candidates in the field.
The programme is designed to advance your knowledge in chemical and process engineering by focusing on an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of key chemical and industrial processes and applying them to practice. You will encounter the latest technologies available to the process industries and will be exposed to a broad range of crucial operations and optimisation methods.
You will explore processes that are applicable to a number of sectors, including food, fuel, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and chemical industries. You'll also gain a greater insight into aspects of advanced chemical engineering and up-to-date process technologies which will enable you to plan, operate and manage processes and manufacturing plants. Our graduates are therefore prepared for a career in a variety of industries and can capitalise on the growing demand for chemical engineers.
£4 million has been invested in the redevelopment of the department’s laboratories including a pilot plant, computer laboratories and an ‘igloo’ – a 3D virtual training facility in collaboration with BP. You will also benefit from access to our STEMLab, a state-of-the-art learning facility which provides a design studio, computer aided engineering studio (class teaching of engineering software), an instruments room and a range of synthesis, characterisation, processing and bio engineering laboratories.
