Entry requirements
You should have at least a 2:2 undergraduate UK honours degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Filmmaking, Film and Television Production, Creative Film Production, Media Production, Digital Media Production, Sound and Video, Photography, or Media Communication).
Equivalent EU/international qualifications are also accepted.
Applicants who do not meet these criteria will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be required to submit a portfolio of work to provide the academic team with evidence that they possess the appropriate skills. Other professional qualifications will be considered on merit and/or with relevant professional experience.
Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English language qualification.

Course content
MA Filmmaking explores contemporary storytelling across a variety of media and platforms, with a particular focus on short-form filmmaking, including narrative, documentary, and artistic practices. The programme helps you develop your voice and identity as a filmmaker, enabling you to communicate ideas through creative, conceptual, and technological approaches. Industry-focused and experimental production techniques are framed by sustainable practice and evolving modes of storytelling, preparing you to shape your future in filmmaking.
The School of Digital Arts (SODA) fosters strong professional connections within both local and global creative industries, positioning you at the forefront of the shifting media landscape. With access to the latest emerging technologies, you’ll gain industry-standard skills and collaborate with a vibrant community of creatives. You’ll be supported by a staff team that combines international research expertise with embedded industry professionals across the wider creative media, arts, and digital technology sectors.
