Course content

The MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology is designed to prepare you for a rewarding career improving health and well-being through exercise. You will develop the advanced knowledge, practical expertise, and professional attributes needed to assess, prescribe, and monitor exercise for people with a wide range of chronic and complex health conditions.

Combining in-depth theoretical study with hands-on clinical experience, including an immersive clinical placement experience, the course will equip you with the competence to conduct and interpret exercise tests, understand disease mechanisms, and design safe, evidence-based exercise programmes tailored to individual needs. You will also strengthen your communication, empathy, and reflective practice skills, ensuring you can deliver holistic, patient-centred care within multi-disciplinary healthcare teams.

By integrating exercise physiology, pathophysiology, and behaviour change theories, this MSc prepares you to make informed clinical decisions and contribute to sustainable, evidence-based health practices, supporting national and global health priorities, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This professionally aligned programme stands out for its accreditation pathway and emphasis on real-world clinical exercise. Staff are in the process of seeking Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) accreditation, which will ensure you meet the competencies required for professional registration as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist.
