Entry requirements

To apply for the PhD programme you would need to have, or be studying for a Master’s degree, while our MPhil programme require a first or upper second degree in a discipline related to your proposed research project, or a relevant, approved postgraduate qualification.

If English is not your first language you will need an acceptable pass in an approved English Language qualification to make sure you get the full benefit from studying at Swansea. We consider a wide range of qualifications, including the Swansea University English Test, the British Council IELTS test (with a score of at least 6.5 in each component).

Developing and evaluating effective evidence-based mental health services to support people at some of the most challenging times of their lives depends on high quality research.

Studying for a PhD in Mental Health will give you the opportunity to pursue your own personal or professional research interests in this vital field, while contributing to new ways of thinking about mental health care, services, and policy.

Over the course of your studies, you will develop and enhance transferable skills such as problem solving, project management, and critical thinking that are valued in any professional setting.
