Course content
The International Undergraduate Program in Science (IUPS) is a 4.5-year degree program designed for international students who wish to study natural sciences at the University of Osaka. The program combines a strong foundation in science with the development of research, analytical, and communication skills in an international academic environment.
The program begins with a 6-month preliminary period, during which students are enrolled as research students and undertake intensive Japanese language training along with introductory science courses. This is followed by 4 years of undergraduate study within one of the following departments: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biological Sciences.
In the early stages, many courses are taught in English, with continued Japanese language education provided. As students progress, instruction gradually shifts toward Japanese, preparing them to fully engage in advanced coursework and laboratory-based research.
In the final year, students join a research laboratory and complete their graduation research project. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a bachelor’s degree in their respective field of science.
The program is suited to students with a strong interest in science who aim to contribute to scientific and technological advancement in a global context.
