Lead change through education

Are you passionate about creating fairer, more inclusive social and learning opportunities? Do you want to make a lasting impact on the lives of children, young people, and marginalised adults? The MA in Social Justice and Globalisation in Education at the University of Chester equips you with the tools to challenge inequality and lead change through education and communities.

Rooted in values of social justice, equality, and human rights, this course offers you the opportunity to critically examine how education systems and community settings worldwide can both reinforce and disrupt injustice - and how you can be part of that transformation.

Explore global education and social challenges

Throughout this course, you’ll investigate how social inequalities and welfare issues affect the life chances, wellbeing, and educational outcomes of children, young people, and marginalised individuals across different contexts. Drawing on contemporary issues, you’ll also explore how global and local education and care related systems shape experiences and outcomes for children and marginalised people.

Learn from leading experts

You’ll be taught by experienced academics who are actively engaged in research across a range of key topics including social justice, education, diversity, and equality. Their expertise ensures that your learning is informed by current debates and real-world applications.

Through seminars, independent study, and supported by some online learning, you’ll be encouraged to share your ideas, reflect on your own experiences and develop a critical understanding of global education and care related systems, and their impact on communities.

Study in a supportive environment

Based at Exton Park campus, just a short walk from Chester’s historic city centre, you’ll benefit from excellent learning facilities, including the Seaborne Library, academic resources, personal support and bookable study spaces – everything you’ll need to study in a setting to help you thrive.

The MA is designed for both recent graduates and professionals looking to broaden their understanding of education in a global context. With flexible learning options that requires in-person attendance of normally one day per week, you can balance your studies with existing commitments.

Shape your future

This course opens a range of opportunities. Graduates go on to work in a variety of roles across the education sector and community work, including pastoral support workers, and lecturers. Others progress to doctoral study or community roles. This MA also provides a solid foundation for HR graduate schemes.

To support your progression, you’ll have access to the University’s award-winning Careers Employability team, who offer expert guidance and personalised support with CV writing, applications and interview preparation.

Join a diverse learning community

The course welcomes students from various professions across the world, fostering a rich and diverse learning environment. This diversity enhances classroom discussions and broadens perspectives, preparing you to work effectively in multicultural and international settings.
