Course content

Inspire the next generation to appreciate, enjoy and deepen their understanding of mathematics by sharing your passion for the subject and training to become a teacher of mathematics

We’ve designed our highly-rated PGCE Secondary Education in Mathematics with QTS so you will graduate knowing how to devise and deliver interesting lessons that engage young minds and develop a life long love of mathematics.

The course has QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) built-in, enabling you to apply for a position as a secondary school teacher during the course with confidence, knowing how to teach effectively.

You will begin by understanding the needs of individual learners, learning to notice, understand and implement key teaching strategies. Working with individual groups of pupils in school, you'll gradually building up to the teaching of whole classes. This will involve fostering the appropriate levels of learning in pupils, corresponding to the requirements of the QTS Teachers' Standards.

We believe that experience is not enough - it is also vital is to be able to unpick and reflect on experiences. You will deconstruct classroom learning activities into their constituent parts, and then build them up again and implement them in the classrooms.

Your personal tutor at university will meet with you throughout the year to discuss your progress and you will also be visited in school by a placement tutor. In school, both your professional and subject mentors will offer support and guidance for you ongoing development towards qualified teacher status.
