Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies

Are you interested in deepening your understanding of the European Union and broader European issues? Would you like to explore Europe through a Nordic perspective?

Europe—why does it matter?
The Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies (ENS) is an interdisciplinary programme that offers an in-depth exploration of contemporary European and Nordic politics, societies, and cultures. It is designed for students who want to examine European developments from multiple perspectives and understand the historical roots behind current challenges.

Finland—and Helsinki in particular—provides a unique setting for studying Europe. Ongoing geopolitical shifts have reshaped the security landscape, highlighting Northern Europe’s evolving role. At the same time, broader global issues, such as social and political inequalities and climate change, continue to influence societies across the continent.

The programme offers two study tracks, leading to either a Master of Arts or a Master of Social Sciences degree, depending on your chosen focus.

Throughout your studies, you will develop into an independent and critical thinker, equipped with the skills needed to analyse and engage with complex European and Nordic issues.

This programme is ideal for you if you:

  • want the flexibility to develop your own area of specialisation
  • are interested in examining Europe and the EU from multiple perspectives
  • are drawn to regional approaches, particularly Nordic societies and cultures
