Entry requirements

A good honours degree or equivalent in any discipline. Business Studies, Social Sciences, Humanities and Liberal Arts, Geography, Economics or Law are examples, but any applicant with demonstrable commitment to, enthusiasm for or experience in the field with a good standard of literacy will also be considered.

English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 with no component score below 5.5.

Why take this course?

This is a unique and progressive course in that it is specifically aimed at students interested in management careers related to land, property and the built and natural environments. We are one of the longest established Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)-accredited centres in the world and our aim is to develop graduates with integrative skills for managing diverse objectives, interdisciplinary topics and teams of professionals.

The management programme you will undertake is designed to teach you to merge the offerings of a wide spectrum of the different professions so that you can deliver more effective and efficient solutions. You will benefit from studying in the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying, where sustainability is a central ethos.

Module Details

You will be taught by staff from a wide range of professional practice including chartered surveyors, architects, civil engineers, economists, town planners, lawyers and environmentalists. Their hands-on experience is reflected in the modern, progressive and diverse nature of this course which provides you with a flexible degree programme that allows you to tailor the course to your own interests, whilst acquiring a range of skills and experiences that will be of direct benefit in the workplace.

The first part of the management course (October to May) requires you to study a number of themes central to real estate, property development and the built and natural environments. The second part of the course (completed the following Summer) is an independent dissertation / project, in a subject of your choice, that requires you to demonstrate an integrative approach. Programme Assessment

Learning environments based on employability are central to this management course and will provide you with valuable skills and experiences through activities such as teamwork, presentations and professional report writing. Approaches to learning include site visits, fieldwork and other hands-on activities as well as guest speakers, teaching salons, studios and seminars. All teaching approaches are supported by online resources including electronic tutor-prepared study guides.

Alongside the more traditional forms of assessment, such as exams, this course is assessed in a variety of different ways, including coursework, group work and presentations. You will also be expected to complete a dissertation project, in a subject of your own choice, which will be developed and conducted with the advice and guidance of a personal tutor.
