Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering or Business Studies (students from a business background must be of high calibre and demonstrate an interest in biological science).

Course content

The bioprocessing and biotechnology industries are a major component of global industrialised economies with impacts in medicine and food production. These industries require a new calibre of technical specialist who will have business acumen and a scientific knowledge base. This MSc equips its students with the necessary tools and expertise to become an entrepreneur, offering key business information and industrially relevant knowledge.

Students are required to complete nine core and three elective modules. All students will be required to undertake a project dissertation.

Core Modules:
Business strategy;
Accounting and finance;
Marketing management;
Fundamentals of biotechnology;
Molecular biology and genetic engineering;
Biochemical engineering;
Bioproduct plant design and economic analysis;
Entrepreneurship and commercialisation;
Biopharmaceutical product & clinical development;

Elective Modules:
Microbiomics & metagenomics;
Environmental protection, risk assessment and safety;
Impact of biotechnology on natural resources;
Fundamental priciples of drug discovery;
Laboratory Skills:
Chemotherapy of Infectious Disease;
Vaccines and Gene Therapy.

The following English Language qualification is required: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
