MSc Communication Systems
Entry requirements
Applicants should hold an honours degree (2:2 or above) from a UK university, or an equivalent qualification, in Computing or other STEM-based disciplines with a substantial focus on computing and programming.
The MSc in Communication Systems welcomes students from a broad range of technical and engineering backgrounds, providing a natural progression for graduates from programmes such as:
- BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- BEng (Hons) Telecommunications Engineering
- BEng (Hons) Computer Systems Engineering
- BSc (Hons) Computer Science
- BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
- BSc (Hons) Sound Engineering and Production.
If you have a strong background in mathematics, programming, physics or a related discipline not listed above, and you are interested in the course, you are encouraged to apply. The course team will carefully evaluate your application to determine suitability for the programme.

Course content
The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical simulation and research-led projects, allowing you to apply what you learn in real-world scenarios. You will develop hands-on expertise in designing and implementing sensor-integrated and AI-enabled systems for wireless and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
By the end of the MSc Communication Systems degree, you will have:
- Advanced understanding of mathematical and engineering principles behind 5G, IoT and wireless networks
- Practical skills in system design and implementation
- Experience addressing legal, ethical and regulatory aspects of wireless and IoT systems
- The confidence to innovate across sectors such as telecoms, transport, healthcare and smart infrastructure.
