Entry requirements

The course is suitable for all graduates of RTPI-accredited specialist masters programmes.

A minimum standard in English language of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent will be required for students whose first language is not English. Pre-course English Language tuition is available.

If your offer to study at Cardiff University is conditional on IELTS, we recommend that you take the ‘IELTS for UKVI’ test at an approved centre. This will give you greater flexibility regarding how to meet the English Language conditions of your offer. Please note that ‘IELTS for UKVI’ is the only test outside the UK that can be accepted for entry to Pre-sessional English Language programmes.

Course content

This part-time course is designed to provide the planning skills and knowledge necessary to supplement appropriate specialist Master’s degrees in order to satisfy the requirements of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

If you have completed a specialised Master’s degree in planning, this will allow you to ‘top up’ your planning knowledge with the spatial planning component of an RTPI-accredited education, making you eligible (after two years of planning practice) for professional membership of the RTPI.

It is specifically for those who have not already taken a 'conversion' Master’s degree to gain access to the UK planning profession.
