Entry requirements

The Diploma course is open to all qualified doctors who are currently working as general practitioners or clinical assistants in dermatology. Doctors interested in applying for the MSc in Practical Dermatology must do so within three years of obtaining a Merit award in the Diploma in Practical Dermatology coursewith Cardiff University, obtaining a minimum of a Merit award (additional selection criteria may be applied due to limited places). Applicants should have a degree in a relevant subject area, including Medical degrees (MBBS, MbCh etc). Applicants should also be a practising GP, GP trainee or family practitioner who sees and treats dermatology patients regularly. Additionally, students should own or have regular access to a computer with high-speed internet access and word processing software. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent). Course content

This is a highly interactive, online, distance-learning programme designed to equip the general practitioner with a sound understanding of skin disease as it presents in practice.

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, hair, nails, and associated diseases. It is a unique specialty with both medical and surgical aspects.

The Diploma in Practical Dermatology (DPD) offers GPs and family practitioners a structured education in primary care dermatology, whilst continuing with full-time work.

The MSc in Practical Dermatology (MScPD) is designed specifically for general practitioners who have completed the Diploma in Practical Dermatology and wish to gain further expertise in the practical management of patients with skin disease.

The aim of the Diploma in Practical Dermatology is to enable GPs to successfully manage dermatological problems in patients presenting to their surgeries.

The aim of the MSc in Practical Dermatology is to further develop skills obtained in the Diploma in Practical Dermatology.
