Course content
The MA SEND and Inclusive Education is designed to support you in developing as a reflective, informed practitioner who can critically engage with education across a range of settings. The programme focuses on understanding how education systems, policies and practices shape the experiences of children and young people, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities or those who may experience barriers to participation.
You will explore the principles and practice of inclusive education, examining how teaching approaches, curriculum design and institutional structures influence access, participation and learning. The course also considers the roles of families, professionals and wider communities in supporting learners, encouraging you to reflect on how inclusive practices can be developed and strengthened within your own professional context.
Throughout the programme, you will engage with the historical, social and political contexts that shape inclusive education. You will critically examine assumptions about disability, difference and educational difficulty, while developing the knowledge and confidence needed to challenge inequalities and support more equitable educational environments.
By the end of the programme, you will have developed advanced understanding of inclusive education and the critical, research-informed perspective needed to advocate for learners who may experience marginalisation or disadvantage.
