Course content
Our MSc Advanced Biomedical Science is designed to equip graduates with the specialist knowledge and practical laboratory expertise required for careers in clinical science, research, and biomedical industries.
This programme combines advanced theoretical learning with hands-on training in modern laboratory techniques, aligned with current NHS and Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) professional standards. You will explore key areas including infectious diseases, applied immunology, molecular biology, and cellular pathology, while developing advanced research, data analysis, and critical evaluation skills.
A major laboratory-based research project forms a core part of the course, enabling you to apply experimental design, ethical practice, and scientific communication skills in a real-world context. Teaching is delivered by research-active academics and practising biomedical scientists, ensuring strong links between academic study and professional practice.
Graduates are well prepared for roles in NHS pathology laboratories, medical research, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, public health organisations, and related sectors, as well as for further doctoral study.
