Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a UK second-class honours degree (2:2 or above), such as a BSc, BA or LLB, or an international equivalent.

As this is a conversion programme, your undergraduate degree does not need to be in psychology.

Applicants are also required to have GCSE Mathematics at grade 4 (C) or above, or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants are expected to apply and register for the full Master’s award.

If you are unsure whether your qualifications meet the entry criteria, you are encouraged to contact the admissions team for guidance.

Course content

MSc Psychology (Conversion) is designed for graduates from any academic background who wish to gain a recognised qualification in psychology and take the first step towards a professional career in the field.

The programme is available as a full-time option over one year or part-time over two years, with 180 credits awarded on successful completion.

Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), the course enables graduates to gain Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which is required for progression into professional training routes such as clinical, counselling, forensic, educational, health or occupational psychology.

You will study the core areas of psychology, including biological psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology and research methods.

The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical research training. You will complete a substantial empirical research project leading to a dissertation, supported by specialist supervision.

Teaching is delivered through blended learning, including campus-based sessions and structured online learning. Independent study is expected alongside scheduled teaching.

This course is suitable for career changers, those seeking professional psychology training, or individuals wishing to develop advanced knowledge of psychological science and research.
