Our MA International Music Management programme prepares you for a future management career within the global music business. This diverse network of multi-billion dollar industries is a dynamic, fast-paced environment in which to build an exciting and rewarding career. From emerging digital economies to cultural heritage industries, from South Korea to Sweden, you will develop an advanced understanding of the latest legal, economic, social and cultural frameworks that support this network.

Learn first-hand key business skills relevant to today’s global music environment through direct engagement with Arts at Southampton, local venues such as Turner Sims Concert Hall, touring international musicians, and masterclasses from industry partners such as Sony, Universal and Google/YouTube.

How much money is generated globally by music publishing each year? Who owns the copyright in a recording? What are Grand Rights? How do you get music synchronised to a video game or TV show? What does it cost to make a Rihanna album? How are music festivals or opera companies funded, organised and run?

This course will allow you to develop an understanding of the different roles music occupies across industries and cultures, from live performance to recorded music for streaming, advertising, video games, films and new media.

You will develop a knowledge of the changing social, legal and economic frameworks within which music industries operate, the marketing, accounting and associated technology platforms that enable them, and the various career paths available in music management.

Aimed at the leading music entrepreneurs of tomorrow, this programme will be taught by professionals who work in the industry and who will share their knowledge and introduce you to the practical music management skills necessary to work in a range of important areas.
