Entry requirements

Here at the University of Essex Online, we believe education should be accessible to all. That is why we offer both academic and work-based experience routes onto our Master of Business Management (MBM). Additionally, you will need to pass your first assignment set within your two-week induction period of the course in order to continue with your studies.

Academic entry route

You must have the following qualifications as a minimum:

  • an undergraduate degree from an approved institution, equivalent to a UK Honours degree, or a relevant professional qualification

Work experience entry route

You must meet the following criteria:

  • at least five years’ senior-level work experience

English language requirement

Our courses are taught in English, so you must have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or equivalent. If you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification, you will be required to pass a free online English test to assess your proficiency. You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.

The next generation of managers needs to be dynamic, forward-thinking and agile – qualities you will advance during your online study. Managers also need to have a thorough understanding of business disciplines, as well as the ability to pivot strategies in response to a range of challenges.

The MBM focuses predominantly on areas of finance, marketing and leadership, while allowing you to personalise the course to suit your personal ambitions. Topics include:

  • globalisation and managing across cultures
  • project management methodology
  • personnel approaches and human resource management
  • business strategy and strategic management

The pinnacle of this course is a business and management research report that you’ll investigate into a management or organisational issue of your choosing. You’ll explore the topic, analyse relevant data and make final proposals supporting the research findings and analysis.

Information for international students

International students residing in specific regions outside of the UK may be eligible for a partial scholarship for our undergraduate and postgraduate online courses.

Students residing in Africa can also enjoy a 20% scholarship on all eligible undergraduate and postgraduate courses until the end of the 2023-24 academic year.
