Master’s Programme in Meteorology, Atmospheric and Climate-System Sciences

Study atmospheric chemistry and aerosol physics, hydrosphere physics, meteorology, biosphere–atmosphere interactions, or climate and sustainability studies. All meteorologists in Finland are trained through this programme.

How is the climate changing?

Society urgently needs experts with multidisciplinary training in atmospheric sciences, as well as Earth and climate-system sciences. Climate change, urban air quality, and extreme weather events are global challenges that are not yet fully understood, requiring continued scientific research and expertise.

Environmental specialists are also in demand across a wide range of sectors, including clean technology, energy, insurance, as well as in policy-making and government organisations.

Study tracks

The programme offers five study tracks:

  • Atmospheric chemistry and aerosol physics
  • Biosphere–atmosphere cycles
  • Climate and sustainability
  • Meteorology
  • Physics of the hydrosphere

What the programme prepares you for

The Master’s Programme in Meteorology, Atmospheric and Climate-System Sciences trains all meteorologists in Finland for careers in weather forecasting, meteorological research, and aviation safety.

It also prepares experts in hydrosphere physics for fields such as cryology, hydrology, and oceanography, as well as chemists and aerosol physicists for roles in industry and research-based organisations.
