Entry requirements

A 2:1 honours degree, or equivalent, and an excellent command of your foreign language(s). Exceptionally, candidates with equivalent qualifications or experience will be considered. All candidates must pass an entry test in translation for each language combination they wish to study (up to two languages in addition to English).

Course content

Translation today involves working in international teams distributed around the globe. On this applied, collaborative, problem-based and research-informed course you will develop the high-level translation, localisation and project management skills you will need as a practising language professional, using an unrivalled range of state-of-the-art translation technologies.

Specialising in translation, you will take core modules designed to equip you with the full range of skills employers in the Language Services Industry are looking for. Optional subjects and elective modules allow you to tailor the course to your interests and strengths.

You will be in contact with the Language Services Industry, International Organisations (EU/UN), and NGOs representatives. You will also have access to a range of discounted professional memberships and technologies.

Compulsory modules:
• Computer-Assisted Translation
• Methods and Approaches in Translation Studies
• Specialised Translation (one or two languages)
• Summer Project (MA only) – either extended translations or dissertation.

Optional/elective modules are available to further your knowledge of Machine Translation, Corpus Linguistics, Audiovisual Translation, Interpreting Skills, and additional languages.
