Human Rights and International Law

Students examine the development and operation of international legal systems, including the United Nations treaty framework and regional human rights mechanisms. The course integrates perspectives from law, international relations, development and conflict studies to analyse how legal norms interact with political, social and economic contexts.

The programme focuses on both theory and practice, enabling students to critically evaluate legal instruments, institutions and enforcement mechanisms while developing practical legal analysis and advocacy skills. Topics include international humanitarian law, global governance, migration, conflict, and emerging issues such as business and human rights.

Through taught modules and an independent research project, students develop advanced legal research, analytical and communication skills, preparing them for careers in legal practice, international organisations, policy, advocacy and research.
