Course content

The MA Erasmus Mundus Human Rights Policy and Practice is a two-year full-time postgraduate programme.

This international programme is delivered across three partner universities: the University of Roehampton in London (UK), Göteborgs universitet in Gothenburg (Sweden), and Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao (Spain).

Students begin their studies in Gothenburg from August to January, continue in Bilbao from February to July, and then study at Roehampton from September to December. From December to June, students undertake their dissertation in the country most appropriate to their research topic.

The programme introduces human rights as an interdisciplinary field, combining legal, political, sociological and anthropological perspectives. Students engage with international human rights law, global governance, social movements, NGOs, research methods, and contemporary debates in human rights theory and practice.

Teaching includes lectures, seminars, simulations such as moot courts, research training and supervised dissertation work. The programme integrates academic study with practical understanding of human rights policy and organisational practice.

The course is designed to prepare graduates for international careers in human rights, equipping them with analytical, research and professional skills applicable across civil society, government, international organisations and the private sector.
