Course content
This MSc Psychology of Forensic and Criminal Behaviour programme explores how psychological theory and research can be applied to understanding crime, offending behaviour, and the criminal justice system. The course develops your knowledge of the psychological factors that influence criminal behaviour and how psychological approaches can be used in assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation.
You will examine key issues such as mental health within the criminal justice system, youth offending, domestic abuse, substance misuse, and violent and sexual offending. The programme emphasises the practical application of psychological knowledge to real-world forensic and criminal justice settings.
Throughout the course, you will develop skills in risk assessment, case formulation, intervention planning, and evidence-based practice. You will also gain experience in research methods, data analysis, and critical evaluation, preparing you to interpret and apply psychological research within professional contexts.
Teaching combines theoretical learning with practical activities such as case studies, simulated professional scenarios, and applied assessments designed to reflect real-world practice in forensic and criminal psychology.
Graduates will be prepared for careers across criminal justice, forensic mental health, probation services, policing, community support organisations, and policy or research roles related to crime and justice.
